Fanny Balmer (1990, CH)

Fanny Balmer is a painter mainly interested in the pictorial representation of landscape.

Interested in the anthropomorphic landscape paintings of the Renaissance where the elements of nature look like human figures, she decides to do the opposite and to create interior scenes where the elements and characters look like landscapes, skies, or plants.

The artist uses personal photos and screen captures of intimate spaces as a basis for her work. Then she tries to break the domestic markers by playing with framing, patterns, elements and colors. Hair becomes plants, the hollow of an armpit is reminiscent of a mountain, pebbles placed on a dining table become asteroids.
The characters of his paintings are bathed in a strange and ambiguous environment.

In these confined spaces, bodies try to get closer to (their) own nature. Stones often decorate her paintings. All singular, they are painted as subjects and act as portraits.

Fanny Balmer lives and works in the PICTO studios in Geneva. She studied at the Head from 2010 to 2013. She continued her education at Chelsea College of arts in London where she obtained a master's degree in visual arts.
From 2019 to 2022, she benefited from a workshop at the City of Geneva and was selected for the Cantonale de Berne and the City of Geneva grants.
